Kayaking and Camping on the West Branch!!

This had to be my favorite trip in all the world! My sister and her friends had planned this trip and I was fortunate to have been invited to come along. It was a few years ago. I'd love to do this again sometime. If not at least I will always have my memories. I have tons of photos which I'll locate and put up but tonight I am just remembering the wonderful adventure! I'll never forget when we first reached Lobster Lake where our trip began. We arrived with all our gear and packed the kayaks. Thank God one of my sister's friends had a canoe with some extra space for a few of our things. It was a tight squeeze to get everything into the kayaks. The bugs were so dense it was difficult not to breath them in. Bug spray was the first thing I grabbed when I got out of the car! I began to wonder what I had gotten myself into! But once we launched to boats the bugs disappeared, thank God! The air was clear and the day was beautiful. The remainder of the trip was awesome! We saw a bear on the edge of the river as it ran into the woods. Camping was great - bugs were minimal. I hope some of the others will come in to my blog share their memories.

The Glen

Kayaking at The Glen in NH was great again this year. On Wednesday night the moon was full and as Elizabeth and I paddled peacefully on the lake we watched as the moon rose up from behind Mt. McGallaway. What a beautiful site! It was so big and bright and almost as soon as it came up over the mountain it hid again behind a dense cloud only to make a second appearance as it rose up from behind the cloud. A special treat!
On Thursday I practiced some rescues. I was unsure whether or not I would be able to do it because of my chronic shoulder, knee and hip problems (arthritis?) but it proved not to be a hinderance. I was able to rescue my niece, Kaitlyn, helping her into her boat from the water as I remained in my kayak. After that I tipped myself over in water that was over my head. With my paddle float and rope was able to get myself back into my kayak with no help.
